Beeper Alert Link
BAL-2

The BAL-2 is designed to be used as an alerting system to notify beeper-carrying personnel of an alarm or trouble event. When connected to an alarm system or a condition monitor the BAL-2 will, upon activation, transmit a signal to the beeper(s) when an event occurs and every three minutes thereafter until the TEST/CANCEL on the transmitter panel is pressed.

The BAL-2 is factory programmed to stop its repetitive transmissions after 2 hours but this can be changed to transmit indefinitely by cutting the "cut for no time limit" loop of wire on the CDT circuit board.

The transmitter will signal any number of beepers up to approximately five miles away depending greatly on terrain and antenna height. A good earth ground is essential for maximum transmission range. An eight-foot ground rod is recommended. Do not connect to power company or telephone company ground rods.

The BAL-2 may be activated either by a momentary dry contact closure of a momentary 12 volts DC input. (The 12 VDC input is used only as a signal and current drain is only .5MA)

The BAL-2 is reset by pressing the TEST/CANCEL button which will cause it to transmit once more then shut down. The unit will not reset as long as the activation closure or 12 VDC input is maintained.

The TEST/CANCEL button may be pressed at any time the unit is not activated to cause it to transmit once for a convenient beeper and transmitter test. The LED indicator light on the right glows whenever the unit is activated or when the TEST/CANCEL button is pressed. This LED brightens briefly each three minutes when the transmitter repeats its signal.

The BAL-2 is powered from a plug-in 12 volt transformer. A built-in 12 volt battery provides power during utility outages. This battery is kept charged to optimum by the transformer and a built-in regulated charger. The battery will provide one week of standby power, non-transmitting, and five hours of transmitting power. The battery's useful life is usually five years depending on environment and usage.

The LED indicator light on the left will be off if the power switch inside the cabinet is OFF and the plug-in transformer is powered. Putting the power switch ON makes the LED glow steady. Anytime the power to the transformer is removed (such as during utility outage) the LED will flash to indicate that the unit has switched to battery power and to investigate the power failure.

The beeper is powered by two N-size alkaline cells. Rechargeable nicad cells may be used but are not recommended since Nicad cell voltage is less than alkaline and may shorten range. Battery life is usually several weeks depending on use. When the beeper is turned on the beeping sound will be immediately heard as a battery test. Press the reset button. The beeper is now set and ready for activation.

The transmitter and beeper are coded so that the beeper will only respond to its matching transmitter while ignoring any other transmitters within range. The code is identified by a label inside of the transmitter door and by engraved letters on the back of the beeper. The code consists of letters separated by a slash mark. Refer to this code when ordering additional beepers. Be sure that no two systems with the same code are installed within twenty miles of each other.
