Condition Alert Link
CAL
Failure of certain machinery or equipment can be dangerous or costly. When failure occurs, or is imminent, it is helpful if authorized personnel are notified as quickly as possible so that preventive or corrective steps can be taken. Selectronics has designed a multitude of electronic detection and alerting devices to minimize the losses from equipment failure. The Condition Alert Link System is one solution that provides quick alerting of distant personnel in the event a hazardous condition occurs.
FEATURES
Low pressure detectors activate when the liquid or gas pressure in the monitored lines fall below set values.
Wireless coded radio transmitter units send a signal to the companion receiver when a pressure violation is detected.
The receiver unit provides audible alert and visual indication of the location of the violation.
The receiver unit automatically reports to a 24-hour-manned monitoring station and announces which transmitter(s) detected the violation(s).
A time delay is provided between violation and reporting to assure that brief out-of-limits condition excursions do not initiate nuisance alerts.
The receiver unit reports power failure at its location.
If all monitored sites and receiver power restore to proper operation the monitoring station is alerted that safe conditions are restored and no human intervention is required.
All transmitters are powered by utility power with battery back-up in the event of power failure.
Batteries are automatically recharged after periods of power failure.
Range between the transmitters and the receiver extends up to one-mile, line-of-sight to allow remote monitoring.
COMPONENTS
LPD-5 Low Pressure Detector attaches to liquid or gas lines to be monitored.
CAL-5 Condition Alert Link transmitter wired to the LPD-5 detectors and to its AC power supply/charger.
CAR-5 Condition Alert Receiver / display panel / digital telephone alarm reporter receives signals from CAL-5 units and displays on its panel which CAL-5 has detected a violation, sounds a local audible alert, and dials the monitoring station over standard telephone line
ACS-12 Plug-in AC supply and battery chargers provide low-voltage power to all CAL-5s and the CAR-5.
OPERATION
The typical sequence of events in a violation-reporting occurrence is as follows:
1. Pressure on a monitored line drops below the preset value and is detected by the LPD-5 attached to it
2. The ACTIVATION indicator light illuminates on the control box in the cabinet of the CAL-5 that is wired to the violated LPD-5
3. A 25-second "wait and see if it corrects itself" delay passes without the pressure returning to normal (to eliminate nuisance alerts from brief violations)
4. The CAL-5 transmits a 9-second alarm signal to the CAR-5 and repeats every 60 seconds for as long as the violation exists
5. The CAR-5 receives the signal, decodes it to determine which CAL-5 sent it, and illuminates the corresponding indicator light on the front panel
6. A 5-minute "wait and see if three more identically coded signals are received" period passes with a new 9-second signal received each minute (to establish even greater assurance that the violation is real and not restoring itself, and to assure that signal was not radio interference)
7. The CAR-5 validates the alarm condition, sounds its built-in audible alert, begins to dial the telephone number of the central monitoring station, and reports which condition has violated so that the station may advise the persons on the call list
Now one of three possible events may occur:
On-site personnel are alerted to the condition and press the CANCEL button on the front panel of the CAR-5 to stop the monitoring station alert
and then tend to the violation by either correcting it or turning off the corresponding CAL-5 to prevent further alarms.
The violation (or all violations if more than one occurred) restores without intervention to normal conditions and the CAR-5 detects the cessation of the alarm signals from the CAL-5(s) and dials the monitoring station to report "restore" so that responding personnel may be advised "all OK"
The violation continues until responding personnel arrive to correct the condition.
