Temperature Limit Alert
TLA-2
The TLA-2 provides constant monitoring of ambient temperature in the vicinity of the unit and provides audible and visual alert if the temperature exceeds high or low set limits. Typical applications include the alert of medical personnel should the temperature exceed stated limits where pharmaceuticals are stored in ambulances and other shipping and transport vehicles or storage locations.
High and low temperature limits are factory set and calibrated to the customer-specified “safe” temperature range. The TLA-2 is available with an internal sensor located inside its case for monitoring the temperature right where it is located or with a remote sensor connected by a ten-foot cable so the sensor can be mounted inside a cabinet, refrigerator, heater, etc. The unit is powered from the standard 12-volt DC vehicle power supply.
INSTALLATION
Installation is simple, requiring only that the unit be mounted in close proximity to the pharmaceutical storage area and the power cord routed and connected to a continuous (unswitched), fused source of 12 volts.
Choose a visible, secure area in the vehicle to mount the TLA-2. A vertical wall or panel within reasonable proximity to the sensitive area is recommended, typically within three feet of pharmaceutical storage. Keep in mind that the TLA-2’s two-conductor cable must be routed to a fused 12-volt power source.
Loosen, but do not remove, the four corner screws on the face of the TLA-2. A few counter-clockwise turns on each is all that is necessary to separate the front half of the enclosure from the back half. Use the holes in the back half as a template to mark the place for the mounting screws on the chosen location surface. Drill two 3/32” holes and fasten the enclosure back half to the vertical surface with the supplied self-tapping screws or any other screws of choice.
After the back half is secure then the front panel should be re-installed on the back by carefully aligning the power cable and the sensor stub with the notch in the bottom edge of the cover, then align the two halves and tightening the four corner screws until the enclosure seals. DO NOT OVER-TIGHTEN.
NOTE: The sensor stub should extend into free air so it can measure ambient temperature. It must not make physical contact with the enclosure, the surface on which it is mounted or any other object.
Route the cable to the 12-volt power source and connect it, RED to POSITIVE and BLACK to NEGATIVE (typically vehicle ground). REMEMBER: The power source must provide continuous, unswitched battery power at all times. The TLA-2 cannot detect temperature excursions if it is not powered.
Upon the application of power the TLA-2 will begin to beep and flash the LOW temperature LED indicator. Press the SILENCE / TEST button when satisfactory audibility has been verified.
OPERATION
The TLA-2 continuously monitors the ambient temperature in its vicinity. It normally displays a dim, alternating flashing of its HIGH TEMPERATURE and LOW TEMPERATURE indicator LED lights as a “quick glance” indication that the unit is working properly. The SILENCE / TEST pushbutton may be pressed at any time to momentarily test the audible alert.
In the event that the ambient temperature rises above the upper set-point the HIGH TEMPERATURE indicator will glow brightly and steadily and the audible alert will sound. Likewise, for a temperature excursion below the lower set-point then the LOW TEMPERATURE indicator will glow and the audible alert will sound.
A momentary press of the SILENCE / TEST pushbutton will silence the audible alert. If the temperature has returned to the normal range the LED indicators will resume their normal dim alternating. If, however, the temperature is still out of the safety range then the triggered LED indicator will continue to pulse brightly, with the other LED pulsing dimly, until the temperature returns to normal range, at which time both LED indicators will resume their normal dim alternating.
